One of the final programs of car overhauls performed at C&NW’s Clinton IA car shops were the repainting of 98 former CMKX covered hoppers. These 4750 cuft cars were built by Trinity Industries in 1979. After the early May 1995 release of the first three of these cars with the large CNW applied to their sides, the remaining 95 cars were released between May and July 1995 painted in the standard CNW green with yellow lettering and a black, red and white “System” herald.
