H-1 3028 Chicago, IL.1007 viewsMost of the H class 4-8-4's were rebuilt starting in 1946 and reclassified H-1. Boxpok drivers and a new frame (the outside frame under the firebox is gone) were obvious modifications. No. 3028 was photographed in Chicago by Arthur B. Johnson on May 18, 1952. M&StL H-1 441402 viewsThe first two M&StL 2-8-0's were built by Baldwin in 1898 for the Iowa Central, one with simple cylinders the other a Vauclain compound. No. 441 was rebuilt with simple cylinders in 1911. Note that she has a Belpair firebox. A Robert Graham photo, place unidentified but probably taken near the 1936 retirement of the H-1.
