E 656 at Central St 400_2400dpi.jpg
E 656 Central Street, Evanston, IL2983 viewsIt's spring of 1956 and steam is almost completely phased out of commuter operations. #656 has only three lightweight coaches to handle on this midday run through the North Shore suburban territory. The engine is just beyond the overpass of Central St on the norh side of Evanston IL. The last car is spotted at the platform to discharge commuters. It seems as though the fireman has noticed the photograher(s) recording the scene. Richard A. Greene photo, collection of Sturart Greene
